Exciting Times at GHV!

Sometimes, things happen so quickly you barely have time to digest them. Four weeks ago I was 'done' with trading. I was so serious about giving up that I sold 300+ items of great 40's and 50's clothing for the paltry sum of £7.50 a piece.

I was tired of market trading. I'm not a manual labour kinda gal, and the twice a month schlep with clothes, rails, mannequins and assorted market necessities was beginning to  wear me down. The online side of business was going pretty well, so I decided to scale down my stock (it was beginning to take over our entire house, which was another  deciding factor - it's not fair to inflict your addiction on others!), and focus solely on the online sales.

I'd been dreaming of my own shop for many years, having dabbled briefly (and sadly unsuccessfully) in running a small unit within a bigger antiques market. I'd looked into the process of getting into suitable premises, and even the smallest of shops (270sqft), required a lot more money than I could lay my hands on.

When I was asked to set up a 'fake' meeting with the Camden Market managers for filming purposes (more on that later), I really didn't think it would come to much. I viewed a couple of available units, and ended up falling totally in love with a quirky, funny-shaped space in the basement of The Stables.

Next thing I knew, I was telling him I'd take it, borrowing the surprisingly small deposit from my brilliant parents, and signing on the dotted line! (At this point I wasn't thinking about stock, or the total lack of it, only that I HAD to seize this opportunity!)

I was given 3 weeks to open, and the 26th October sees the Grand Opening event of GHV Boutique!

It's hard to know what to feel when your dreams come true. Obviously the excitement is tinged with a little terror, but I have a good feeling about this!

Hoping to see you there! XXX
