Lilli Ann was a San Francisco born company, started in 1933 by Adolph Schuman. Lilli Ann was named as such after his wife Lillian. Bless.
The label quickly became synonymous with high quality fabric and bold, almost avant garde designs.
The most common surviving garments from the Lilli Ann label are usually suits or suit jackets that have been separated over the years from the skirt.
Lilli Ann also created incredible evening and day wear.
I just love, love, LOVE these advertisements with their tiny waists and angular features!
The company continued to produce even after Adolf died in 1985, but was sold in the 1990s and closed for good by 2000.
The legacy lives on through vintage collectors. I am a huge fan. Sadly L.A does not come cheaply - a suit can fetch anything up to £500 in good condition. Keep an eye out on your treasure hunts for the distinctive lines and quality, and maybe you can pick up a bargain!
